Food Pantry Ministry

Food box distributions are made by reservation before noon on Tuesdays.

Boxes are given out each Wednesday, 1-2pm.

Call 828-475-2490 to reserve a weekly food box.

Our OHUMC Food Pantry serves community neighbors needing food assistance.  Food boxes are distributed each Wednesday throughout the year and our goal is that each box will provide 2-3 meals for a neighbor’s family, with each meal including meat, vegetables and other side dish offerings.

We use a reservation or appointment system to help plan and organize our box preparation and to ensure we have an appropriate number and size of boxes for the Wednesday distribution.  Reservations are open to any neighbor in need regardless of income, other benefits, or affiliations.

Neighbors are asked to call 828-475-2490 before noon on Tuesday to make a reservation for Wednesday.

Calls for reservations can be made anytime during the preceding week.  Rarely reservation numbers must be limited but usually neighbors can make a reservation each week as needed.  We ask that you call back if you know you will not be able to keep your reservation so that we may offer that opportunity to others.

Drive by distributions are made to neighbors with reservations between 1-2 pm Wednesdays at our Multi-Purpose Activities Center (MPAC) on the south side of our church campus.  Enter at the cemetery driveway of our Oak Hill UMC campus (2239 NC-181, Morganton, NC) and drive around the church to the MPAC parking area on the hill.  Continue to the portico and stop at the front doors where volunteers will greet you and place your box in your vehicle, trunk, or rear space.

YOU CAN HELP:

Volunteer

Volunteers are an essential element of our Food Pantry, and we are always eager to welcome additional volunteers.  We need drivers to pick-up food supplies; help with managing our shelved supplies; assistance with reservation management; and aid during distribution day box preparation and loading, and welcoming neighbors.  We have a place for you when you have the time to offer.

Donate

Our Food Pantry is made possible by God’s Grace and by the caring contributions of shelf-stable food items from our Oak Hill United Methodist Church congregation and by community neighbors and friends.  If you would like to contribute to this ministry, we welcome donations of canned vegetables, fruits, sauces and soups; and dry goods like rice, pasta, beans (navy, white, peas, lentils, etc.), cereals, grits, and powdered milk.  Donated food items can be placed near the church office where there is a marked container for these items.

Financial gifts are also welcome and support purchase of food supplies.

Donations can be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

We are pleased to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank Metrolina and its donors in providing food to our community.  Financial donations help us cover the small administrative fee this partnership requires.

May God bless you and yours with health and nourishment.  We look forward to sharing in this ministry with you.
