In May 2013, the “Comfort Kits” project was started, for children being removed from their homes and placed in emergency foster or kinship care. The project was started by The Burke Child Collaborative (BCC) with a one year grant from the Burke Community Foundation to fund an initial 60 kits. The grant stipulated that the BCC would engage the community to sustain the project after the initial year. The kits include a specific list of basic necessities and comforting items to help children make a smoother transition. It is the organization’s goal to receive completed kits, however some individual donations in bulk will be accepted. For instance, the Project Linus group just donated 60 blankets to be used in the next kits.
